Just to be clear: I actually wasn’t trying to argue that Canadian people are superior to American people. I think people are people and you can’t just categorize them like that.
What I was saying - which was in response to a message my dad had gotten on eBay insulting him for being Canadian and having socialized healthcare, WHAT - is that I think the quality of life and the assuredness of safety is higher in Canada. Not necessarily by much, but I think it is.
My dad was telling me that if I were to pass out and hit my head on something (for example) and have to be taken to the hospital in an ambulance, that would cost thousands and thousands of dollars in the USA. Whereas, if that happens here, it’s possible that I could walk out for free. We sometimes have to pay out of pocket for our prescriptions, but then it gets reimbursed a few weeks later by our health plan.
The other thing that makes me love Canada over the USA is the culture. There’s a saying that the US is a “melting pot” of culture whereas Canada is more of a “mosaic,” and I think I have to agree with that.
Privileged Canadian girl disclaimer: I’ve only been to the US perhaps ten to fifteen times in my entire life, so I’ve largely been observing it from the outside (as Canadians are essentially forced to do at all times), and I recognize that my scope of it is therefore limited. But then, I think I know a lot more about life in the US than my American counterparts know about life in Canada.
