The culture there is VERY misogynistic even if they like to pretend otherwise. There are good guys there but there are also overwhelming amounts of bad guys: guys who are sexist, racist, homophobic, etc. even if they don’t use those words to describe themselves and would be horrified to hear those words applied to them. That level of discrimination paired with willful blindness is really toxic and disheartening to be around.
I love love love the AskWomen community on Reddit and have been a part of it for years, and certainly my Reddit experiences improved dramatically when I vowed to ONLY spend time in AskWomen and MakeupAddiction. But sexist douchebags show up everywhere on Reddit, sooner or later. The misogynistic culture is amazingly pervasive and anti-woman attitudes are the norm in most subreddits.
