A quick look at my NEW DESK (!!) and the way it’s currently laid out.
Left to right:
-Wire magazine holder from Dollarama ($3). Currently holding my Language of Love/Sex/Gender course reader; it’ll hold more handouts and printouts as the semester goes on.
-White hardcover Poppin notebook. I bought this ages ago as part of my sick obsession with always buying too many notebooks. I’m using it as a receptacle for weekly to-do lists and week-at-a-glance calendars.
-Desk lamp. This was actually a gift from my aunt to keep on top of the piano, since she always says there’s not enough light around our piano… but like, my desk needed it more. Shh.
-Power bar for all the zillions of things I plug in on the regular.
-Beloved laptop, which is running so much faster now that I’ve offloaded the past 3 years’ worth of photos into my Google Drive.
-Black wicker basket from Dollarama ($2.50). Currently it contains my must-have journalism reference books: the Canadian Press style book and caps and spelling book, and my copy of Elements of Feature Writing. I’ll stick this semester’s textbooks in there too when I get ‘em.
-iStation speakers. I’ve had these for something like 11 years; they were a gift from my uncle after I got my first iPod, which was a silver iPod mini, so yeah, that’s how old these are. They still work, though one side is quieter than it should be. I can plug my computer into these speakers, or my iPod or any other device with a headphone jack.
-Museum of Sex “Sex Makes Me Thirsty” mug, repurposed as a pen cup. I bought this as a gift for a friend but she told me she literally doesn’t have any more room for tea cups (lol classic lesbian amirite) and neither do I so this is the solution. It’s stuffed with pens, markers and highlighters.
-iPod. It’s an old-school one that can’t even access the internet. I am so old.
-Ecosex postcard which is only there because I was using it as a coaster last night.
Other things I hope to add to this setup:
-A small bowl or tray full of crystals with writing-enhancing properties (blue topaz, tiger’s eye, etc).
-A potted plant. I am considering a bunch of different possibilities. It has to be a kind that can handle low sunlight.
-A box of Kleenex. Necessary.
-Pinned-up photos of inspirational whatnots.
