Kate, A month ago I quit my job for something new, after two weeks I decided it wasn't for me and returned to my old job. I was taken back but am only getting 18 hours at most a week. They had to hire another girl and I totally understand but I am so depressed! I have so much time on my hands and I don't know what to do to quit feeling sorry for myself and do something productive! Please Help!

Can you look around for another part-time job? I have found most of mine through Craigslist but I realize that’s not always the most reputable way to find employment…

If not, I would recommend that you sign up to volunteer someplace that you feel passionate about, and/or start working on some kind of creative project that you’ve been putting off forever.

When I took a gap year in between high school and university, initially I felt super listless and depressed about having seemingly nothing to do – but then I started volunteering at a local organization I’m passionate about, and I started a sex blog, and I made a zine, and I made a reading list and started reading for pleasure again, etc. At some point I made a list of “Things I Want To Do During My Gap Year,” which included many things that I hadn’t had the time or energy to do while I was in school, and I managed to do a lot of them. I’d recommend you do something like that.
