The Dr Martens Facebook page is doing this cool thing where they take photos of customers wearing freshly-bought Docs in-store, post them on the page, and then if you find yourself and tag yourself, you can win a pair of Docs.
It’s quite a clever idea, and it’s wonderful to be able to look through these albums upon albums of people with all different personal styles, each wearing their Docs in a different way. I love stuff like that – it’s so fascinating to see that one person can style an item in a completely different manner than another person.
There’s a lot of gross style-shaming and even body-shaming going on in the comments, though. Thin, pretty girls get praised and told how “perfect” they are, whereas chunkier girls, or people with more “out-there” style, get torn down by randoms.
I don’t know why this entire culture insists on being so critical of other people’s appearances. It makes no sense. If you don’t like something, don’t look at it. If you don’t want to be treated shittily, don’t treat other people like that. C’est simple.
