i have never bought a sex toy in my life, but i really want to get a good vibrator for myself for christmas. the ones i've seen you review as 'excellent', however, are really expensive! do you have any recommendations on slightly less pricey vibrators that still have good performance?

You basically get what you pay for when it comes to sex toys, so if you’re able to save up some cash, you’ll get the best mileage out of something by Lelo or Fun Factory or Jimmyjane.

The Turbo Glider is a good, cheap vibe that I often recommend to beginners because it allows you to figure out what you like. It gets pretty strong and can even be taken in the bath. The only thing is, it’s fairly loud, so if that’s an issue for you, it’d be something to consider.

If you want something luxurious for a low-ish price, I think Mia is Lelo’s cheapest vibe at $58. It’s fairly quiet and has a decent amount of power, but isn’t waterproof. It charges via USB, which is kind of cool, especially since it just looks like a USB stick.

I have a friend who’s had good experiences with the Onye. A lot of people swear by the Hitachi, which is super strong and loud – I don’t think it’s a good choice for someone who’s never used a vibe before, though, because it’s numbingly strong. I also know a few people who love their Fun Factory LayaSpot, which isn’t all that strong but might work for a beginner.

Finally, PicoBong is a company that Lelo created and designed, at a cheaper price point. I’ve heard good things about the Moka and Ako. I think they’re all waterproof and have a medium volume level.

Hope that isn’t too confusing for ya! These are all good options; it really just depends on what shape/size/volume/power level you’re looking for.
