I try to keep it as simple as possible, but that’s hard with long curly hair!
Curly hair isn’t supposed to be washed more than every other day at the most, because over-shampooing dries it out. So I wash mine about twice a week, using a natural shampoo bar (currently, this one).
Sometimes I follow that up with conditioner (anything by Suave Naturals), but usually not. I prefer to get my hair wet as seldom as possible so that it retains the dye and I can go for longer between visits to the salon.
After getting out of the shower, I put some Lush R&B (a leave-in conditioner that smells like dill pickles) on my fingers and scrunch it into my hair. This helps with curl formation and also makes it super soft and shiny.
On non-wash days, I don’t do a whole lot to my hair. Sometimes I’ll brush it out with a boar bristle brush if I want to put it into braids or an updo, but mostly I prefer not to brush it because that ruins the curls.
Occasionally, when my hair’s really a mess (e.g. dread-like tangles after I’ve been too sick or busy to take care of it for a few days), I soak it in conditioner for about an hour prior to washing and then detangle with a wide-tooth comb.
