To the anon who asked me about long-wearing red lipsticks, I’m sorry, I accidentally deleted your question (Tumblr is so buggy, argh!) but here are some suggestions:
Right now I’m wearing OCC Lip Tar in a shade called NSFW, and indeed it does fit the bill of what you’re asking for. OCC’s formulations are so pigmented that you only have to use a little tiny bit and spread it around with a lip brush, which means that it’s much less likely to smear or rub off. It’s also decent as far as comfort goes. NSFW leans toward pinkish-red a little bit; there’s probably a better shade you could choose instead if you want a true, classic, “Hollywood” red.
Gala Darling loves Kat Von D’s Everlasting Love Liquid Lipstick so I decided to try it out, in a shade called Outlaw (a true 1940s brick red). I find it very drying and it comes off if I eat any food that’s fatty/oily, but if you’re just planning on wearing it to a cocktail-type event or something, it is a great shade. Might be a good idea to put some balm or gloss on top, though. Seriously, it is drying.
I am a long-time fan of MAC’s matte lipstick in Russian Red. I think it is truly the perfect shade of red - glamorous, cool-toned, timeless. It, too, is a bit drying, and will tend to come off if you eat greasy foods. However, I’ve found that it stays put pretty well when properly blotted.
My favorite “cheapo” red lipstick, if you need one at a drugstore price, is “Really Red” by CoverGirl, but it is actually more like a reddish pink, especially after being worn for a while.
One last possibility: I hate to recommend Lime Crime because their business practices are shady as fuck, but I have heard that their lipsticks tend to stain for days (which is widely regarded as a bad thing but which may be perfect for you). They have a red shade called Retrofuturist which might work for your purposes.
p.s. To anyone who is reading this who is one of those “I can’t wear red lipstick!” people: yes, you totally can. Just find the right shade for your skin tone.
