I seemed to dismiss it quickly because I’ve spent a long time thinking about it and talking to people about it in real life, and I’ve come to a conclusion about it already.
I know lots of people who are legitimately trans, or who are of minority ethnicities, and they have been hurt and trivialized by communities of “otherkin” and “transethnic” people. That’s not okay with me. I believe in freedom of self-identification but not at the expense of people who are already battling extremely hard to be seen as rightfully legitimate.
By the way, I’m not going to engage with any of the people who are telling me that I’m wrong, and I’m going to block all the people who have sent transphobic messages. My blog is not a democracy – it’s a space that I carefully curate, so I don’t include bullshit like transphobia, and I’m certainly not obligated to tolerate people who have oppressive beliefs of that nature. If someone doesn’t understand what being trans means, or why it’s a struggle, they have an entire internet to educate them – that’s not my job.
